Title: Use of SNPs/Haplotypes to Study Complex Diseases in Clinical Trials

Abstract:

Pharmacogenetic studies on complex diseases---such as schizophrenia, obesity, and bipolar disorder---present a huge opportunity and a big challenge in the drug discovery and development. Statistical methods for studying the classic Mendelian diseases are not adequate for complex diseases in which multiple genes with small or moderate effects work in concert. The ever-increasing capability of identifying and typing genetic markers also demands high-throughput and sensitive methods to make sense of a large amount of SNPs/haplotypes data. This talk will explore processes and methods in this endeavor.
