Title: Joint Analysis of False Discovery Rate and Nondiscovery Rate

Abstract:

The multiplicity problem has become increasingly important in genetic studies. The control of false discovery rate (FDR) represents a different point of view than the classical control of the probability of making even one type I error, also known as the family-wise error rate (FWER). In the context of FDR, we discuss a new quantity of interest, the nondiscovery rate (NDR), which is the fraction of nonrejections among the cases in which the null hypotheses are false. Central to this talk is the relationship between NDR and FDR and its impact on the choice of FDR and sample-size calculation for a desired NDR. The ideas are illustrated using a series of real-data examples.
