Title:	A Note on Multiple Tests for Gene Expression Data

Abstract:	The issue of multiple testing is commonly encounterted in the work of identifying differentially expressed genes in the analysis of gene expression data. We carefully examine some of the key concepts in the multiple-testing literature such as weak control, strong control, and subset pivotality. We also study the applicability of the permutation-based Westfall and Young procedure for controling the familywise error rate. Our goal is to clarify some misunderstandings about multiple testing in the literature.
