Abstract:

A population-based case-control study of ovarian cancer was done in Israel from 1994 to 1997. Almost all incident cases of ovarian cancer in Israel during this period were included in the study. Data on personal and family history of breast and ovarian cancers, oral contraceptive use, parity and (for a significant subset) BRCA status was collected from the study participants. We estimate exposure-specific absolute risks of ovarian cancer based on the case-control study using a missing-data approach and GLMs. We also consider a strategy for borrowing strength from other Ashkenazi populations for BRCA mutation rates, which are necessary for risk estimation.
