Title: Risk Estimation Models of Motor Vehicle Collision and Injury

Motor vehicle collisions and injuries involve three types of factors: drivers and passengers, an often dominant contributing factor, vehicle features, and road conditions and environments. The investigation of the collision or injury risk associated with any one factor will need to take into account its interactions with other types of factors. Although collision or injury data are often readily available for analysis, the risk estimation can be difficult due to the lack of matching risk exposure data. We describe risk analysis models that allow for the estimation of a set of relative risk scores solely based on collision or injury frequency data. Our models are extensions of the Bradley-Terry model for paired preference comparison. Some analysis results of real police-reported collision data are given as illustrations. Further extensions of the models will be discussed from the perspective of recent advancement in statistical computing.
