Abstract #301027

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract:

We have developed an approach to the analysis and modeling of clinical and gene expression data based on Bayesian tree models. Our current aim is to generate classification tree models that can use such data to predict cancer-related outcomes for patients of interest. The development and generation of these tree models involves statistical issues such as the specification of a Bayesian model for the data, the choice of a measure to determine tree growth, and the selection of a method for searching through the tree model space. This talk will focus on a discussion of these issues in the context of our modeling approach. An example of the application of our models to the prediction of breast cancer outcomes will be presented.
