Abstract:

Traffic safety is an important issue for policy- and decision-makers. A weighted least squares regression was used to develop an index to assess the economic impact of traffic crashes between counties within Alabama. This model adjusts for the covariates such as population of the county, area of the county, miles of interstate highway, etc. The data consists of three years of traffic crashes aggregated by county of residence that was provided by the State Department of Transportation. This project was partially funded by the University Transportation Center of Alabama, Project #02115.
