Abstract #300180

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract:

This paper develops a class of continuous-time closed capture-recapture models. The capture intensity is allowed to vary with heterogeneity, time, and behavioural response. The heterogeneity effect is modeled as being gamma distributed. A unified likelihood-based approach is proposed to estimate population size. This approach is also easily extended to capture-recapture with known random-removal. Simulation results are presented to examine the performance of the proposed estimation procedures. A real data example is given for illustration.
