Abstract:

SEAL is unique to Le Moyne College and has yet to find a similar entity at other colleges and universities. SEAL was developed approximately six years ago, has developed considerably through the years, and is ready for expansion. SEAL is a resource for undergraduates and graduate students and faculty who are looking for data and/or software that will help them with Quantitative and Qualitative methods of analyzing data. My report will encompass what SEAL is, what SEAL does, and SEAL's plans for the future. What SEAL does: Purchase, acquire via the internet, and archive social science data for research and instructional purposes for faculty and students. Serve as the locus of institutional capacity for both the development of proposals for externally funded faculty social scientific research and the execution of grants that are required. Serve as the "work-station" and the "locus of support" for student assignments and projects in the social sciences that involve computer based analysis in courses such as Social Science Department Honors Projects and Integral Honors.
