Abstract #302369

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Title: Exact Inference in Crossover Designs

Abstract:

For many crossover designs there are only asymptotic results available in the literature. We consider one of the simplest designs available for comparing two treatments, namely the Balaam design. This design does not require one to assume that carryover effects from one period to the next are equal or that occasion (period) effect is zero. Even for this simple design, practitioners have to resort to asymptotic methods for making inferences. To overcome the underlying inference problems, we take the generalized approach and obtain p values and confidence intervals that are based on exact probability statements. Some simulation results will also be presented to shoe the superiority of the proposed test over asymptotic test is established.
