Title: Synthesizing Slopes in Meta-Analysis
Author(s): Betsy J. Becker*+
Companies: Michigan State University
Address: 462 Erickson Hall, East Lansing, MI, 48824-1034,
Keywords: meta-analysis ; slope ; regression
Abstract:

Betsy Jane Becker outlines methods for synthesizing regression slopes in meta-analysis. Becker first presents an approach for summarizing identically distributed slopes, which can be used in either the bivariate regression or multiple-regression context. Becker outlines complicating factors that arise when different models underlie the slopes to be included in a synthesis. Becker describes a variety of methods that have been used in such cases in past syntheses, and problems that arose in those applications. Becker concludes with assumptions needed to summarize slopes in these more complex situations.
