Abstract #302150

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Title: A Model for Joint Analysis of a Repeated Event Process and Longitudinal Outcome

Abstract:

Biomedical studies often monitor multiple outcomes of mixed data types over a specified study period. We consider modeling the joint outcomes of a recurrent event process and an associated longitudinal biomarker. Building on the work of Lin et al. (2002) and Pena et al. (2001), we propose a latent class model in which the event process and longitudinal outcome are conditionally independent given the latent class. Additionally, our model accommodates the effects of interventions performed after each event occurrence and the weakening effect on the subject of accumulating event occurrences. We discuss characteristics of the joint model and display its behavior under varying simulation scenarios.
