Abstract:

Data collected by establishment surveys are indispensable to preparation of the national accounts and periodic economic indicators. Unlike household surveys, there are no published textbooks devoted to questionnaire development and testing methods for establishment surveys, or that document current "best" practices in questionnaire design. Instead, the available literature is scattered across specialized sources, particularly conference proceedings. The 2002 International Conference on Questionnaire Development, Evaluation and Testing Methods was ripe with a number of papers on establishment survey QDET methods that form an emerging and respectable literature. Interest and awareness is growing as the methods are further refined. The discussion leaders will share their initial ideas, topic outlines, and plans for developing a book on establishment survey questionnaire development and design. They will actively seek input and suggestions from discussion participants to help ensure the usefulness of such a book.
