Abstract:

In an adaptive design the sampling effort is divided between an initial and an adaptive stage. Sampling during the initial stage is conducted according to a standard design, while sampling during the adaptive stage occurs near informative units revealed by the initial stage sample. A unit is considered informative if its response satisfies some prespecified condition. This talk will describe adaptive designs where the responses of more than one unit can contribute to satisfying the condition. In the spatial setting, these designs will have in effect different unit sizes in the initial and adaptive stages. Unbiased estimators will be given and discussed.
