Abstract:

A method for constructing lower prediction bounds for a future observation from a Weibull population at design stress level, based on data from a single factor accelerated life test, was proposed by Jayawardhana and Samranayake (2003). We extend this result to the multiple stress factor case using exponential distribution and obtain a predictive density whose lower percentiles can be used as lower prediction bounds. Such multiple stress factor tests have the potential of yielding high acceleration with modest increases in the stress levels when compared to single-factor tests which may require a high stress level to obtain the same acceleration. Results of a Monte Carlo simulation study show that the proposed method and a modified version provide coverage probabilities reasonably close to the nominal value. Possible extension to Weibull distribution will also be discussed.
