Abstract:

A two-level hierarchal point process model was built to model the numbers and locations of the unexploded ordnance and ordnance-like objects (such as fragments of the exploded ordnance and scattered metal objects). In the first level, inhomogeneous Strauss processes with elliptical shape intensity will be used to model the submunition dispersion pattern from cluster bombs. In the second level, we model the fragmentation effect of the exploded sub-munitions by inhomogeneous Poisson process. Based on the observed information from a small area covered by a robot, first, we make inferences on the parameters to determine the patterns of the unexploded ordnance and ordnance-like objects. Furthermore, we predict the probability that there is an unexploded ordnance at a certain location outside the covered region and to label the unexploded ordnance from the ordnance-like objects inside the covered region.
