Abstract:

This talk describes recent extensions and applications of a Java shareware tool called conditioned choropleth maps (CCmaps). The purpose of CCmaps is hypothesis generation about geospatial patterns of a dependent variable in the presence of two covariates. CCmaps is also useful for learning about data and teaching statistical concepts. One of the more interesting statistics related advances involves a box plot like modification of the three class partitioning sliders to address the problem of outliers. Another advance involves cognostics that provide quick access to precalculated slider settings of likely interest. Applications include human health and risk factors at the county level and environmental relationships on regular grids.
