Abstract:

The 2002 NAEP included two special studies on writing online (WOL) and oral reading (OR). These studies used a very complex multi-phase sampling method to select student samples. In order to compute the variance of such samples using the jackknife method, special care should be given. This paper describes the special features of the sample design and how the jackknife method of the variance estimation was applied to the design.
