Abstract:

Predicting the number of 'resolved' telephone numbers and completed interviews that will from additional dialing attempts on a sample of telephone numbers is an essential component of conducting a replicate-protocol in an RDD telephone survey. This poster develops a model for predicting both these quantities given the current state of the sample. The model estimates probabilities of the various possible results of each dialing, based on the actual results of calling up to a particular point in time, and uses these values in predicting the yield of further calling. The model is then evaluated by comparing predicted and actual results at vaious points in the study, as well as by developing confidence intervals for the estimated number of completed interviews and resolved records using data from a national RDD telephone survey.
