Abstract #301218

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract - #301218
Title: The Application of Hybrid Heuristic Optimization in Design of Experiments
Author(s): David Drain*+ and Douglas C. Montgomery and Connie M. Borror

Keywords: genetic algorithm ; simulated annealing ; heuristic optimization ; design of experiments ; response surface methods
Abstract:

Hybrid heuristic optimization methods can discover efficient experiment designs in situations where traditional designs cannot be applied and exchange methods are ineffective. A heuristic hybrid has been developed to take advantage of the exploratory power of the genetic algorithm, while utilizing the local optimum exploitive properties of simulated annealing. The method is demonstrated in cases where multiple optimization criteria are specified, and in irregularly shaped design regions.
