Abstract:

In lab animal studies for obesity research, various automated multichannel data acquisition systems have been used to monitor food consumption of groups of animals continuously over a period of time. Such recorded food weight data usually have large volumes and are associated with various artifacts. We have developed a simple three-step robust smoothing algorithm that can effectively smooth various artifacts in food weight data, and we have implemented a highly automated statistical software tool to smooth and to summarize data in formats suitable for further statistical analysis.
