Title: Sowing the Seeds: A Statistical Exploration
Author(s): John G. Gabrosek*+ and Mary Richardson

Abstract:

The authors describe a hands-on data collection activity. Students design an experiment, collect data, describe data numerically and graphically, and perform statistical inference using confidence intervals and hypothesis tests. The activity is flexible enough to allow for both matched pairs and completely randomized designs with one or more factor variables. The only materials needed for the activity are a bag of sunflower seeds, several tape measures, and a good lung capacity.
