Abstract #300884

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract:

With the advent of MCMC methodology and high-speed computing and our ability to stochastically search millions of models and assign to each a posterior probability, Bayesian variable selection has become a reality. A major difficulty has been elicitation of prior distributions for parameters within models and probabilities on models, with a growing need for default objective priors that perform well in a wide variety of settings. I describe the recommendations of the model selection working group, part of the year-long Stochastic Computation program at SAMSI, with highlights on new objective prior distributions and software.
