Abstract:

The Department of Industrial Engineering and the Interdisciplinary Program in Statistics at Arizona State University have partnered with Motorola, General Dynamics and Honeywell to develop and implement a program to prepare graduate students in industrial statistics and six-sigma methodology. The program of study may be pursued in several ways; through the Masters degree program options in industrial engineering, through the MS Statistics degree, or through the Graduate Certificate in Statistics. Students must complete graduate courses in statistical quality control, design of experiments, regression analysis, a six-sigma methods class, and a project that involves use of the statistical techniques and other six-sigma skills. The six-sigma methods class and the project are team-taught by ASU faculty and Black Belts from the industrial partners. This presentation discusses the design and implementation of the program and gives details of our experiences.
