Title: Point Process Models in Ecological and Environmental Sciences
Author(s): Peter Guttorp*+
Companies: University of Washington
Address: PO Box 354322, Seattle, WA, 98195-4322,
Keywords: spatial statistics
Abstract:

In 1991 an NRC report on spatial statistics and digital image analysis contained two sections on the use of point process methods in ecology and environmental science. At that time, the point process modeling in these fields was fairly weak and had not really been used to develop new scientific knowledge or to test established hypotheses. The development over the last 12 years has been rapid, and some important progress in understanding ecological and environmental processes has been made. Some of this progress will be illustrated using a few case studies.
