Abstract #300759

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract:

We introduce the notion of dynamic Bayesian measures of information provided by the data about parameters. The concept is developed through exploring the information structure of the multivariate residual life distribution. We consider the parameters of the lifetime distribution along with the lifetimes of components of a system as members of a group. We quantify information provided by the components' lifetimes about the parameters, allowing their distributions to change as the components age. The behavior of the dynamic information as a function of the ages is studied. The results are discussed in the context of some important classes of bivariate distributions.
