Abstract #300716

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract:

This paper considers the problem of nonparametric treatment comparisons when only interval-censored failure time data are available, which often occurs in clinical trials and epidemiological studies. By interval-censored data, we mean that the survival time of interest is observed only to belong to an interval, instead of known or right-censored. For the problem, we generalize the most commonly used log-rank test for right-censored survival data. Numerical studies are conducted and reported to evaluate and compare the proposed test with the existing method, which indicate the presented method works well. We apply the method to a data set arising from an AIDS cohort study, which motivated the study.
