Abstract #300594

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Title: Varying Coefficients in General Linear Models
Author(s): Joan G. Staniswalis*+
Companies: University of Texas, El Paso
Address: Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, El Paso, TX, 79968-0514,
Keywords: varying coefficient ; general linear model ; smoothing ; disease prevalence ; renal failure ; nonparametric regression
Abstract:

This research involves the use of varying coefficients in a general linear model setting. Algorithms for fitting the varying coefficient models are explored as well as regression diagnostics for detecting outliers and influential points. The varying coefficient model is illustrated with an analysis of renal failure data for Texas, to estimate disease prevalence by ethnicity and economic status using aggregate information available at the county level, not the subject level.
