Abstract:

A grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has allowed the Department of Statistics at Penn State Univeristy to create and offer a new degree program: Master of Applied Statistics (MAS). The MAS program is intended for quantitatively oriented students with a bachelor's degree in agricultural, biological, or the social sciences, or in business, computer or information science, or engineering, mathematics, or the physical sciences. This program is also suitable for professionals who handle data in their current positions, and who are mostly interested in the practical side of statistics. The MAS program will provide training in statistics focused on developing data analysis skills, and exploration of all core areas of applied statistics. The curriculum of the program is designed to respond to the need of business, industry, and government.
