Abstract:

Important effects of treatment on health status measures must be interpretable and understood for designing studies, informing consumers and health-policymakers about the meaning of a change in score, and providing information for formulary and reimbursement decisions. We will examine the strategies used to explain clinical significance and to establish interpretability of health status measures. Approaches will be described, examples will be given, and conceptual issues will be discussed.
