Title: How Many Alternative Forms of Assessment are Enough?
Author(s): Dexter C. Whittinghill*+

Abstract:

Everyone has colleagues who teach their courses with just two midterm exams and a final, but we hear from educators that using varied forms of assessment is the right thing to do. If I teach a statistics course, how many forms of assessment are sufficient to assess the student's all-around abilities? We will discuss what we think is the right balance of homework, analytical labs, quizzes, exams, projects, portfolios, article critiques, and writing assignments, and still remain sane!
