Abstract:

This paper will explore several ways of clustering and displaying the tables in a database. Several metrics will be considered on several clinical databases. The metric is based on the presence or absence of variables in the tables being clustered. Tables are considered similar if many variables are shared, and may be clustered on this basis. They may also be clustered on the basis of dissimilarity. In addition to clustering data tables, it is possible to present the variable names which each cluster shares, as well as the number of variables and observations in each table in each cluster. It is hoped that this would provide a graphical tool as part of the metadata which helps to document a clinical study. Results and conclusions will be based on the analysis of a Clinical Data Standards model, and a database of drug codes.
