Abstract #300282

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract:

Nonresponse in longitudinal studies causes problems with study design and analysis. Most people treat all nonresponse as the same. We distinguish between two types of nonresponse--dropout and in-study nonresponse. In-study nonresponse is when the subject does not respond at one isolated follow-up point, but is still enrolled in the study, and could well respond at one of the remaining follow-up points. Dropout, in contrast, is permanent nonresponse, when the subject refuses or is unable to participate in any further follow-ups and decides to disenroll from the study. We develop and fit Bayesian models to determine what covariates predict dropout and in-study nonresponse.
