Abstract:

New technologies have overwhelmed pharmaceutical researchers with data. Many of these technologies (e.g. gene chips, brain imaging, high throughput screening, mass spectroscopy) have stimulated the development of sophisticated new data analytical methods. Some of these have statistical graphs (sometimes dynamic and interactive) at their heart. Almost all rely on graphical displays to visualize the data and results and to communicate analytical conclusions. We briefly discuss some of the issues in designing and producing effective statistical graphs in this environment and give several examples.
