Abstract:

The randomized response (RR) technique is used in sample surveys to reduce nonsampling errors due to respondents answering untruthfully or not answering the questions presented to them. This paper briefly introduces stratified random sampling versions of Warner's RR model, the unrelated question RR model, and the two-stage RR model. These models are compared with their respective counterparts that use simple random sampling. Furthermore, the proposed models will be compared to each other in terms of relative efficiency. It is shown that stratified random sampling further minimizes the variability in the estimate of the proportion of people with the sensitive trait under question, resulting in a survey with more precise results.
