Abstract #300086

This is the preliminary program for the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, California. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 2-5, 2003); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Title: Distinguishing Families of Dependent Processes
Author(s): Andrew B. Nobel*+

Address: Dept. of Statistics, Chapel Hill, NC, 27599-3260,
Keywords: hypothesis testing ; ergodic process ; discernibility ; mixing
Abstract:

In this talk we will present general sufficient conditions for the discernibility of two families of stationary ergodic processes. The conditions, which involve the weak topology for stationary processes, are analogous to existing conditions for the discernibility of families of i.i.d. processes. As an application of the conditions, we will show how one may use adaptive hypothesis testing to study polynomial decay rates for covariance-based mixing conditions.
