Description

Environmetrics is a growing field where the development and application of quantitative methods is of great practical importance. The proposed session provides examples of how technological change both creates problems and helps to solve problems. The papers cover three different aspects: 1)Research areas develop in order to solve problems caused by environmental pollution. An example is the role played in the evaluation of environmental pollutants by quantitative risk assessment methods; 2) New ways of making measurements. Technological advancement permits data to be collected that would not have been possible previously and often results in much larger data sets as well; 3) Complex modelling of environmental processes. More observations and greater computational capabilities allow models of phenomenon to be continually improved.
