Description

In memory of Gottfried Noether, a prominent scholar in Nonparametric Statistics, the Noether family and ASA established the Noether Awards in 2000. The Noether Awards are given to recognize and encourage scholarship in Nonparamteric Statistics. Two Noether Awards are now given each year, one to a senior scholar and one to a young scholar (under age 35 and untenured). The award has been in effect for two years. Erich Lehmann (year 2000) and Robert Hogg (year 2001) have been the recipients of the Senior Noether Award. Rafael Irizarry of Johns Hopkins received the first Young Scholar Award in 2001. This Noether Award Invited Session will be a session in which the recipient of the Senior Noether Award will present a major paper on Nonparametric Statistics.
