Abstract:

Group sequential designs offer substantial benefits over traditional fixed-sample designs. This is especially important for Phase II and Phase III clinical trials, where ethical considerations such as patient safety and rapid approval of effective treatments are paramount. The FDA now recommends group sequential studies in certain cases. The discussion leaders are principal developers of the two leading software packages for group sequential design and monitoring, EaST and S+SeqTrial. Discussion will include current issues in the field, capability of existing packages, and future directions.
