Abstract:

This presentation will introduce a "Trinomial"or three-category approach to bivariate record selection in order to identify "jointly high," "jointly low," observations for mapping with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The paradigm arises in settings where co-occurrence or causal associations are sought among two or more variables. The query of bivariate association also necessitates the identification of those geographic locations where "low/high" and "high/low" attribution is observed so that contingency-table oriented tests can be applied for statistical significance testing.
