Abstract:

The Private Schools Survey (PSS), sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), is the basis for the universe of private schools. This survey collects data for all private elementary-secondary schools every two years and the private school universe is updated accordingly. This paper will be a continuation of papers from previous years with new developments. It will compare the results from the latest private school universe updating to that of the previous years based on selected school characteristics. This paper will also contain an analysis of the list frame sources and their effectiveness on updating the universe. From this analysis, we will be able to compare the sources and determine if there are any sources that we can eliminate. This paper will also contain a more extensive analysis of list frame births reported by multiple sources than previous years. From this analysis, we will be able to determine if there are any sources that report common schools and thus be eliminated, or if there are any sources that report unique schools that we would not have gotten anywhere else.
