The Census Long Form Transitional Database (CLFTD) is a large intercensal rolling survey which uses the American Community Survey (ACS) questionaire. The CLFTD will be used to test the feasability of an ongoing survey that may eventually replace the long form of the Decennial Census. In 2001 the National Epidemiological Survey of Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) is the first Census Bureau survey to draw its sample from the CLFTD.
The Census Bureau strives to create innovative sample designs that provide greater precision at lower costs to our customers. Using data collected from the American Community Survey questionnaire as a screener is one new way that we can improve the efficiency of our sample designs. The intercensal sample data contains demographic, housing, social, and economic information collected from over 78,000 households in 1200 counties each month in the year 2001. NESARC is a survey conducted by Census Bureau for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. NESARC is designed to provide reliable and valid measures of alcohol use and associated disabilities.
