Abstract:

As an integral part of the PRCES, the PRTPOPS was done in Puerto Rico. The USBLS collaborated with the PRBLS with technical assistance and in the construction of the instruments. A CATI System was used and the AAPOR standards for final classification were enforced. The time period for follow-up calls was blocked. An electronic list of all listed residential telephone numbers, as of April 20, 2001, and the prevalence of unlisted numbers in 100-numbers non zero clusters, or "unlisted clusters," were provided by the PRTC. This was a first-time approach to increase frame efficiency and reduce implementation complexities in the PR telephone surveys. A pps cluster sample was selected from unlisted clusters with, at least both, 15 % hit rate and 10 unlisted numbers; systematic sampling was used in the listed numbers frame. Six pseudo replicates (waves) per POPS Group were selected during a six-month period, stratified by family income and geographic region, resulting in 44,603 initial calls and 8,524 final interviews.
