Abstract:

The availability of functional data is growing. A new definition of data depth for functional observations is presented. Given a collection of curves, this idea allows to measure the centrality of a function, and it provides a natural center--outward order for the sample functions. Some analytical and statistical properties of this concept are established. A real data set is used to illustrate its performance.
