Abstract:
|
Establishment surveys have established that data collected through Web-based surveys are very cost-effective and are becoming an increasingly important mode of data collection. Household surveys have been slower to incorporate Web-based surveys, largely since internet penetration is not as high among households as among establishments. Recently, this has begun to change with WEB-TV and similar products. This paper examines households' capabilities and willingness to participate in "Web-based" surveys. Over seventeen thousand households, selected for the BLS Point of Purchase Survey, were questioned about their access to the internet. Of those with internet access in their home, follow-up questions were asked as to their willingness to participate in a Web-based Point of Purchase survey. Among the information collected was a household's main concern with Web-based surveys and the length of time a respondent is willing to spend on a Web-based survey.
