Abstract:

It is important to comprehend adolescents' risk behavior patterns in designing an effective behavioral intervention to prevent HIV among adolescents. In this study, we apply the technique of cluster analysis on a set of longitudinal data. This data set came from a preventive intervention that was delivered to youth living with HIV (YLH). Adolescents' number and percentage of unprotected sex acts, as well as number of substance use, are the variables of interest. In addition to producing final cluster patterns with confidence limits, the approach also provides statistical inferences for evaluating the intervention effects in light of the resulting cluster models.
