Abstract:

In this paper, we consider test-based exact confidence intervals for the difference of two independent binomial proportions. Following Agresti and Min (2001) and Chen (2002), we construct the confidence interval by inverting a two-sided exact test. We investigate alternative test statistics, including one based on the tail probabilities of observed outcomes, where the tail is defined as the set of outcomes which occur with a less probability than the observed outcome. The exact confidence intervals derived from the alternative statistics are compared with existing ones in terms of coverage and length. Numerical examples are provided for illustration.
