Abstract:
|
The Panel on Institutional Review Boards, Surveys, and Social Science Research was convened by two units of the National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences to address the concerns of the social, behavioral, and economic science (SBES) research community as they relate to the protection of human participants in research. The focus of this Panel is on the structure, function, and performance of the institutional review board system for protecting the rights and welfare of those who participate in SBES research. Its goal is to recommend ways of assuring the protection of individuals who participate in research and doing so in ways that are consistent with the research needs of these disciplince. This paper summarizes the Panel's activities and describes its future directions.
