Abstract:
|
Rosner ("Fundamentals of Biostatistics", 5th ed., Duxbury) provides a dataset from a study (Tager, et al, 1979, Am. J. Epi. Vol 110, No. 1, 15-26) concerning the relationship between children's pulmonary function and cigarette smoking in conjunction with a variety of related variables. This dataset provides an accessible context and substantial opportunity for students to explore a wide range of statistical issues. Topics range from those typically covered in introductory courses to intermediate-level modelling courses. This talk will provide brief descriptions of how the data are used for discussion and motivation for many of these statistical issues and techniques.
