Abstract:

This talk proposes a flexible method for examining the bivariate dependence structure of multivariate failure time data. Checking is based on cumulative sums of residuals calculated in bivariate time. The residuals are naturally expressed in terms of the familiar cross ratio function (Clayton, 1978; Oakes, 1982). This connects the sign of the residual to local overestimation or underestimation of dependence. The method can be used to evaluate the fit of any parametric model for association between failure times. Use of the method for model checking and model selection is discussed.
